Abandoned by the side of the road, Chas the puppy is taken in by a clan of badgers and learns to become wild.

The idea of killing other creatures horrifies him at first, but he learns to hunt with Sly the fox and endures a harsh winter with the woodland creatures.

When he accidentally meets Joe, a farmer’s son, Chas must decide whether he really is a wild dog, or whether he can trust the master he longs for.

Eleanor Watkins is the author of around fifty-five books, most of them fiction for children and YA. Many of them are situated in the rural scene with which she has lived her life, first as a farmer's daughter and then as a farmer's wife.

She loves the natural world, the rhythm of the seasons, meeting people, books, animals, growing things. She and her husband still live in a centuries old farmhouse overlooking the beautiful Wye Valley and the Book Town of Hay-on-Wye. They have four adult children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
