From Matt McChlery

Paul's third missionary journey ended in Jerusalem, where he encountered an angry and violent mob who almost killed him. His life was saved by some Roman soldiers who arrested him and he ultimately ended up in prison in Rome where he awaited trial as a Roman citizen. His imprisonment lasted two years, with his life hanging in the balance.

During this time, Paul wrote a number of letters to his friends and churches he had planted that are packed full of practical and spiritual advice for Christian living that we can still learn from today.

The Prison Letters will take you on a thematic 40-day journey through the books of Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon. Packed full of personal anecdotes and wisdom, the message Paul conveyed to his readers during his imprisonment is brought to life.

Are you ready to tear open the envelopes and unfold the pages of these powerful letters? As you do, you will discover how you can live for Jesus in a more real and intimate way.

Highly recommendable and worth its 5 stars...

I was delighted to receive an ARC copy of The Prison Letters: A 40 day devotional for Lent by Matt McChlery because I had thoroughly enjoyed and reviewed his other book Standing in the storm: Living with Faith and Cancer on Amazon and Goodreads in 2022. Heres a book you could immerse yourself spiritually in 40 days leading you to Easter and in company with the Holy Spirt! The Prison Letters in 7 themes: Family, Unity, Spiritual Warfare, Prayer, Living for Jesus, Suffering and He is Risen is significantly appropriate for Lent. These themes contain amazing insights on how to live and enjoy a life in Christ as a Christian in true peace; without worry or fear. I found the book very realistic, open, truthful and engaging. Day 31 GIFT OF SUFFERING is an eye opener for me. It is also a devotional that will enlarge your faith. Check out Day 19 PRAY BIG PRAYERS. The author provides further reading and questions at the end of each sessional theme which could be used for personal study as well as for church/ family bible study, cell group activities and Sunday school for youths and adults. Spiritual Warfare is particularly enlightening [Day 16]. I found the questions really intriguing. I could go on and on. Therefore, I will end by encouraging you to get a copy of the book. It is highly recommendable and worth its 5 stars.
